Palatset utf\u00f6rdes av en av Cosimos favoritarkitekter, Michelozzo. Familjen hade redan indirekt tagit makten och det \u00e4r Cosimo den \u00c4ldre som l\u00e4gger grunden f\u00f6r de f\u00f6ljande 300 \u00e5ren med Medici-familjen som Florens herrar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I<strong> San Lorenzo kyrkan <\/strong>med<strong> kryptan <\/strong>och <strong>klostret <\/strong>ser vi resultatet av <strong>Brunelleschis<\/strong> nya filosofi med de rena ren\u00e4ssanslinjerna. Vi bes\u00f6ker den <strong>\u201cgamla sakristian\u201d <\/strong>d\u00e4r flera av Medici-medlemmar ligger begravda och kryptan d\u00e4r Cosimo den \u00c4ldre vilar. Bredvid honom ligger \u00e4ven hans v\u00e4n och favoritkonstn\u00e4r, Donatello, begravd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">N\u00e5got av det mest imponerande man kan se \u00e4r Medici-kapellen som Ferdinando I b\u00f6rjade bygga i slutet av 1500-talet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanken var att g\u00f6ra ett slags \u201cEscorial\u201d, ett familjekapell, d\u00e4r i fors\u00e4ttningen alla storhertigar av Toscana med familj skulle vila. I det rikt utsmyckade&nbsp;<strong>Prins-kapellet <\/strong>imponeras vi inte bara av rymden utan ocks\u00e5 av valet av material. Idag dock s\u00e5 kommer de flesta bes\u00f6karna till Medici-kapellen f\u00f6r beundra <strong>\u201cden nya sakristian\u201d <\/strong>d\u00e4r <strong>Michelangelo&nbsp;<\/strong>skulpterade sju statyer for \u00e4tten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det var Medici-familjens p\u00e5var, <strong>Leone X<\/strong> och hans kusin <strong>Clemente VII<\/strong>, som ville hedra sina f\u00e4drer med ett gravmonument. B\u00e5de <strong>Lorenzo il Magnifico (den Storslagne)<\/strong> och hans bror <strong>Giuliano <\/strong>(som m\u00f6rdades i katedralen i den ber\u00f6mda Pazzi-konspirationen 1478 och eventuellt var far till Clemente VII) hade n\u00e4r de dog begravts i San Lorenzo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leone X ville runt 1520 \u00e4ndra p\u00e5 det och gav d\u00e4rf\u00f6r Michelangelo i uppdrag att rita det vi idag kallar \u201cden nya sakristian\u201d f\u00f6r att skilja den fr\u00e5n den redan existerande i San Lorenzo kyrkan. Michelangelo slutf\u00f6rde aldrig uppdraget d\u00e5 han flyttade till Rom 1534. Det avslutades ist\u00e4llet av <strong>Giorgio Vasari<\/strong> och <strong>Bartolomeo Ammannati<\/strong> i mitten p\u00e5 1500-talet.
